The Willick Family Reunion -

           Saturday July 18th 2009

This was our 12th official International Reunion:

Your Reunion Committee was pleased to announce our return to Willoughby Township!

It was in 1828, 181 years ago, that our ancestors left Europe and arrived in Canada, to settle in Willoughby, Ontario with others from their homeland.

Many appreciations to all who could join us for the day with family, friends, and refreshments. A tree planting ceremony was held prior to the Reunion, at 1:00 PM.  Registration opened thereafter, and our Reunion ran from 2:00 until 6:00 PM.  Following games and activities for youths of all ages, indoors and outdoors, we had an informal dinner.  Festivities continued in the evening with music and dancing at the Chippawa House!

The Willoughby Volunteer Fire Department Recreation Hall was the site of this year's event. Located directly opposite the Willoughby Town Hall, on Sodom Road between Fort Erie and Niagara Falls, the fire hall is situated on former Willick farmland and is minutes from the Willoughby Historical Museum (One-room Schoolhouse), St Joseph's Cemetery in New Germany, and of course the sights in and around Niagara Falls!

Sharing the news:

On Reunion Day, registration began at 1:30. Attendees brought came alone or with family, and “items of interest” such as photos and letters. Most families brought snacks and drinks, and food and drink was available for purchase as well. Our all-family meeting was held at 5:30.  At 6PM, the picnic baskets and purchased food from the kitchen  ended the afternoon with a meal. After refreshments about fifty people re-joined us in the evening for a special performance by Willowood

Volunteers

Volunteers prior to and on the day of the Reunion were essential. People with interest in attending our Planning Committee meetings were able to contact Carol DeVilliers (info@willickreunion.org) or Mike Willick (wfra@willickreunion.org). Your opinion counts!

Donations and gifts were also appreciated. We held door prize, dessert, and other fund-raising raffles. Committee members and officers were points of contact before the Reunion for questions about donations, door prizes, or Reunion activities.

Dessert Raffle:  Your favorite Dessert or Treat was a big hit for our fund-raising raffle.

Each item listed the donor name and a description of the delicious treat!

Door Prizes & Recognition Awards:  Donations of new items were welcome as prizes.

Donors provided items in new condition and family-appropriate. (At the discretion of the committee, some items were combined or otherwise awarded)

Support Funds:  Financial support of our Reunion was welcome and greatly appreciated.

Operating costs each Reunion include: the Services and Rentals; Mailing, Fliers, Postage, and Communication; Awards and Souvenirs; Entertainment and activities.

We thank those who attended and those who waited for the next Reunion for considering an individual contribution of $15 to help us continue providing news and Reunion plans for our next great gathering.
